How parcel carriers measure
- Girth = longest side + 2 × width + 2 × height. DHL, DPD and GLS use this to set the upper limit, which is 300 cm for DHL and GLS.
- Hermes, DPD and GLS classify parcels by the sum of the longest and shortest sides. With Hermes, the third side must be no longer than 50 cm.
- DHL accepts parcels up to 120 × 60 × 60 cm and 300 cm girth. Larger parcels up to 200 cm in length and 360 cm girth are shipped as bulky goods for a surcharge.
- DPD accepts parcels at shops with a longest side of up to 100 cm and a girth of 250 cm; for collection, the limits are 175 cm and 300 cm. The DPD CLASSIC terms name no minimum size.

How the calculator works
- Sort the three sides: longest L, middle M, shortest K
- Length plus girth = L + 2 × M + 2 × K
- Hermes: L + K must be less than or equal to the class limit
- All dimensions are checked in millimeters; a value above the limit does not pass
Assumptions
- Measure the fully packed parcel with padding, from the outside.
- Weight limits and dimensions come from the carriers' terms and conditions.
- The parcel may be rotated: the order of your inputs does not matter.
Worked example: parcel 30 × 20 × 10 cm
Length 30 cm, width 20 cm, height 10 cm.

Edge cases
- 100 × 50 × 50 cm: length plus girth 300 cm, which is exactly the DHL limit and fits.
- 100,1 × 50 × 50 cm: length plus girth 300,1 cm, which is above the DHL limit.

Common questions
The longest side is taken as the length. Add twice the width and twice the height. A parcel measuring 100 × 50 × 40 cm has a combined length and girth of 100 + 100 + 80 = 280 cm. This applies if the parcel carrier uses this formula. Hermes measures differently; see the Hermes question.
No. The limits differ by parcel carrier and product. The calculator checks each parcel class individually and shows what is too large or too heavy, such as length, combined length and girth, or weight.
No. Volumetric weight is a separate calculation used to determine the rate. This calculator checks dimensions and weight against the limits for each parcel class.
A standard DHL Paket may measure no more than 120 × 60 × 60 cm, have a combined length and girth of 300 cm and weigh 31.5 kg. Larger parcels up to 200 cm long and with a combined length and girth of up to 360 cm can be sent as bulky goods for a surcharge of €28.99.
Hermes adds the longest and shortest sides. Up to 50 cm is an S parcel, up to 80 cm an M parcel, and up to 120 cm an L parcel. The third side must be no longer than 50 cm.
