DHL Common Label: choose the right label
Are you searching for “Common Label” because you want to order DHL labels or set up your printer? The exact version matters: DHL uses this name for both thermal labels and labels for laser printers. This guide explains how to choose the right material and match your print output to it.

Common Label does not describe just one format
DHL offers Common Labels for different printer types. The name alone is therefore not enough to order suitable label material. Also compare the printing method, dimensions and supply format.
The thermal versions described by DHL have a label size of 103 × 199 mm. DHL offers them as fanfold material and on rolls. There are also Common Labels for laser printers, including a version with a shipping label measuring 105 × 208 mm.
When choosing material, do not just search for “Common Label”. Compare the full product description with your printer and the shipping label you generate.
Thermal labels: distinguish rolls from fanfold material
For the thermal labels described here, DHL distinguishes between fanfold and roll material. The label dimensions are the same, but the feed method differs.
Also note the difference between the label and its backing: for these thermal versions, DHL specifies a label size of 103 × 199 mm and a backing width of 106.5 mm. Do not compare only the printable area with your printer's specifications.
Before buying, check how your printer holds the material. For roll material, also compare the roll core and outer diameter with the device description. Check DHL's current terms.
- Check the printing method in the device description.
- Compare label dimensions and backing width separately.
- Choose rolls or fanfold material to suit the material feed.
- For roll material, check the roll holder specifications.
Match the print file and paper size
Before printing, compare the page size of your shipping file with the label loaded in the printer. Do not reuse an existing printer setting just because the material is called Common Label.
Shipnovo recommends printing its shipping labels at actual size without automatic page fitting. Check the print dialog for any setting that reduces the output or fits it to the page.
Check one printout before printing the whole shipping run: are the address and barcode fully visible? Does the content fit within the label? If anything is cut off, first compare the file format, paper size and orientation rather than reducing the output by eye.
What Shipnovo handles when printing labels
The material specifications above come from DHL. Your shipping software's print output is a separate matter: Shipnovo lists thermal formats of 103 × 150 mm and 103 × 199 mm for DHL, as well as laser labels on A5 sheets. Choose a print format that matches your material; the name Common Label does not replace this comparison.
In Shipnovo, you set up shipping methods with a product and print format. You can then print the labels for a shipping run together and in the same order as the packing list.
If a printout fails, reprinting in Shipnovo opens the label that already exists. Shipnovo does not buy new postage. Also note that label creation, packing and shipment confirmation are separate steps. Shipnovo shows the feedback to eBay separately.
