Calculate eBay shipping costs in 2026
Shipping charges that are too low eat into your profit; charges that are too high put buyers off. The calculation always follows the same steps. Prices change. That is why the examples include a source and date, and links are provided to the shipping providers’ pricing pages.

Step 1: weight including packaging
Weigh the item together with the box, packing material and label. Shipping providers use the weight of the fully packed parcel, not just the item.
Step 2: dimensions and shipping method
Measure the parcel’s length, width and height. The weight and dimensions determine which shipping method is suitable.
- Letter mail or Warensendung for flat, lightweight items
- DHL Kleinpaket up to 1 kg and 35 × 25 × 8 cm
- DHL Paket up to 31.5 kg and 120 × 60 × 60 cm
Step 3: check the current price
Check the current DHL or Deutsche Post price list, or your business customer contract. Add the cost of packaging materials and your time if you do not cover them through the item price.
Example using list prices for private customers, as of 13 October 2026: An item weighs 3.2 kg, or 3.6 kg including the box and packing material. It fits in 40 × 30 × 20 cm. DHL Kleinpaket is not an option because it allows a maximum of 1 kg. DHL Paket up to 5 kg costs €7.69. If the box costs €0.80, your shipping costs total €8.49. By contrast, a lightweight item weighing 350 g and measuring 3 cm in height can be sent as Warensendung for €2.70.
If you have a DHL business customer contract, its prices apply, not the list prices for private customers.
Step 4: Enter costs in the shipping policy
On eBay, you set shipping costs in a shipping policy. For each shipping service, enter the shipping cost and, if necessary, the amount for each additional item.
